The Legion building was originally an old slaughterhouse and was acquired in the 1930's by several local business men for the use of the village people as a British Legion. There is an entry in the Guardian newspaper of 13 August 1931 about a garden fete that was held in the hall of the Legion because of the showery weather, the profit from which went towards helping with the debt for the new hall for the Legion. Further buildings were added during the 1960's.
On the premises is Royal British Legion Branch, a registered charity as well as the Tywardreath RBL Club. The Branch looks after the welfare of ex and serving service personnel.
The club which lease the premises from the Branch consists of a committee, bar, games area, snooker room and lounge. There is a large TV screen showing all sporting events, 3 darts teams, 2 pool teams and 2 snooker teams. Also held are regular events for charities that wish to use the large bar area.
There is a RBL Ladies Section who organise regular events.
All visitors are welcome to the club and new members are also welcome.
